  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • No convictions for a felony or domestic violence offense.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • There are no specific height or weight requirements; candidates must pass a physical agility test.
  • Good driving, police, and employment record.
Benefits
  • Salary: $39,790 ($43,790 upon completion of basic training academy).
  • Lateral Transfers: $47,305 (includes KLEFPF Fund)
    • Minimum 3 years prior experience
  • Paid Time Off: Earn 15 vacation days, 12 holidays, and 1 personal day per year.
  • Sick Leave: Accumulate one day per month to 120 days max.
  • Retirement: Employees join County Employee Retirement System.
  • Insurance Program: The following insurance coverage is provided at little or no cost to employee:

  • Uniforms: All uniform items, including body armor, are provided.
  • Tuition: Assistance Based on the availability of funding, the City of Richmond may reimburse an employee for half the cost of tuition.
  • Fitness: The police and fire department have a fully equipped fitness facility available 24 hours, 7 days a week.
