The Police Record's Unit does not fax or email copies of any police reports, including Accident Reports. There is a 10 cent charge for copies of each page of reports.
An authorized person may obtain a copy of their report from the Richmond Police Department - Police Records Unit by various methods: In person, Online and U.S. Mail.
In-Person
You may obtain a copy of your reports (OPEN RECORDS REQUEST OR ACCIDENT REPORT) by visiting the Richmond Police Department (1721 Lexington Road) between the hours of 7 am - 5 pm. Monday through Friday (closed on Weekends and Holidays).
Online
Open Records may be obtained by emailing the Police Department or visiting the Police Reports page.
Your Open Records Request should include the following:
- Copy of driver's license
- Date of incident
- Description of incident
- Location of incident
- Report number
- Your name and address
- Your phone or contact information
Accident Reports Online
Citizens may also receive a copy of their accident report by visiting the BuyCrash website.
Accident Reports guidelines are as follows:
Persons authorized to receive copies of an accident collision report per Kentucky Revised Statue 189.635 include:
- Authorized Legal Representation of Involved Party with Written Authorization
- Insurance Companies of Involved Persons
- Involved Person
- Parents of Involved Juveniles (A birth certificate if required and ID of parent)

There is a $1 fee to obtain a copy via U.S. mail. Please allow 5-8 working days after the occurrence.
